Clicking on the [GM] will load the Google Map location for easier navigation, and clicking on the [AT] will load the AllTrails information, if one exists for that location.

HIKE OF THE WEEK

Rocky Mouth Trail [GM] [AT

This hike in Sandy is an easy out-and-back (OAB) hike that is about 0.7 miles long and ends with a waterfall that makes the perfect goal on a hot summer day this week. There is also a decent amount of shade on the early part of the hike and then once you turn the corner to the left it is entirely in shade due to the canyon wall.

MURAL OF THE WEEK

"Utawesome Mural” [GM]

We shared this one last week in the Day Trip section, but we absolutely LOVE this mural that @_utawesome painted down near the Stratford Hotel in downtown Cedar City. It celebrates so much of the beauty that Utah has to offer and really just makes you say “Utah is AWESOME!” If you visit and take a picture, make sure to tag us (@LorisFabLife) and tag them too (@_utawesome_) because they love seeing visitors at their mural.

WATER ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

Cory Wride Memorial Park” [GM]

This park and splashpad is outside Saratoga Springs and is definitely one to visit if you are going to be in the area. It features so many awesome park attractions, but the water features are so great for kids of all ages to cool off in. With the hot temperatures coming this week, this would be worth the drive in our opinion.

HISTORICAL/CULTURAL ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

Wheeler Historic Farm” [GM]

This spot situated between Murray and Holladay is a great escape from the hustle and bustle of the city. This farmstead preserves and celebrates the homesteading efforts of the 19th century and is a great place to help give the family a context to the things we enjoy at the sacrifice of so many pioneers in those early settlement days. It definitely helps you realize some of the things we take for granted.

NATURE ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

Antelope Island State Park” [GM]

Situated just west of Layton, this is the largest of 10 islands that are situated in the Great Salt Lake. It has tons of wildlife that can be spotted as you drive and hike around this island. We even saw a porcupine, which was a first for us. The buffalo are especially majestic.

CRAFT/ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

Painter's Tape Art

The boys always enjoy this art project that has become a regular summer craft that we do each year. You take painter's tape and tape up your canvas ahead of time in strange patterns. Then you add your paint to the canvas and let it dry. Finally, remove the paint and appreciate what you made.

DAY TRIP OF THE WEEK

Moab, UT

For the day trip this week, we toward the Southern portion of Utah and share some of our favorite things to do in Cedar City, UT.

     - “Greetings from Moab Mural” [GM] Located near the Main St. and 200 North, this awesome mural welcomes you to Moab and makes for a great backdrop to mark your visit to the area.

     - “Mill Creek Trail” [GM] [AT]This hike is a 1.8mi out-and-back (OAB) moderate hike that takes you to back to an awesome waterfall, but also a great spot to do some cliff jumping. Our boys loved cooling off in the water, and doing a little daredevil jumping at the same time.

     - “Ken's Lake” [GM] This lake is located in the same spot as the Mill Creek Trailhead above. There is a beach along the southern portion of the lake and makes for a great spot to cool off while you swim, kayak, stand up paddleboard or get in some fishing.

     - “Dead Horse Point State Park” [GMThis state park has one of the most iconic pictures of some deep canyon views of the twists and turns of the Colorado River. Definitely a picturesque view that is worth documenting with your family while you are in the area.

     - “Arches National Park” [GM] You do NOT want to make a trip to Moab and miss out on the chance to see the Arches National Park. Our personal favorite spots are Delicate Arch, Sand Dune Arch, Landscape Arch and Corona Arch (which is actually outside of the actual park). If you have a 4th grader, you can still print out a ticket online and get into the park for FREE. Click here for the website.

     - “Moab's Sand Hill” [GM] This spot just across the Main Street from the entrance to Arches National Park and is a great sand hill to run up, do flips off of the rocks, sled down or just have fun on. We always visit closer to sunset when it is cooler and then flip on the headlights when it starts getting dark.

     - “Copper Ridge Dinosaur Tracks” [GM] Located just up the road from Arches National Park, this is a great spot to stop and enjoy the prehistoric tracks of dinosaurs for FREE! They have awesome signs that help explain where to see the tracks and we brought along a water bottle to pour on the tracks to help them stand out better.

     - “Hell's Revenge” [GM] and “Fins & Things” [GM] What trip to Moab would be complete without renting a RZR and accomplishing some rock crawling along some amazing trails. This is something that Moab is known for and definitely worth the cost of the rental to experience something spectacular!
