HIKE OF THE WEEK

Deuel Creek Trail [GM] [AT

This hike in Davis County is a moderate out-and-back (OAB) hike that is 4.3 miles long and is one of our family's favorites. It crosses 11 bridges over the creek with 3 small waterfalls that are a great relief on a hot summer day. The highlight is an awesome rope swing that is perfect for all ages, including adults.

MURAL OF THE WEEK

"SoDa Row Murals” [GM]

There are several great murals to be found in the SoDa Row section of Daybreak. This area is a great spot for not only finding some great murals but also sculptures and other art manifestations. Let us see what you found by posting and tagging us.

WATER ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

Tibble Fork Reservoir” [GM]

This reservoir is located up the canyon from Alpine/Highland area and makes for a great escape into the foothill areas during a hot day. Typically about 10 degrees cooler than what it is in the valley, this area also offers a great beach for setting up chairs and umbrellas and is the perfect spot for fishing, paddle boarding, kayaking and swimming.

HISTORICAL/CULTURAL ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

Hill Aerospace Museum” [GM]

This location is just on the border of the Hill Air Force Base and is a great homage to the history and important impact that airplanes have played in the historical parts of our nation's armed forces. There are plenty of models that are on display with some that can be experienced firsthand by your family.

NATURE ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

Conservation Garden Park” [GM]

This park is located in the West Jordan area and is a great educational resource for the various vegetations that abound in the Utah area. There are also a lot of great topics regarding things that can be done to help conserve water and maintain vegetation accordingly. Our family also loves the full-size chess set that is available to play with on the property.

CRAFT/ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

Feed the Ducks

The boys always like going to nearby ponds and lakes where there are collections of ducks and sharing our bread scraps with them. There are some locations that are more concentrated than others and our favorite one of these is in Sugarhouse Park. What areas have you found a lot of ducks to hang out?

DAY TRIP OF THE WEEK

Brigham City/Tremonton, UT

For the day trip this week, we toward the Southern portion of Utah and share some of our favorite things to do in Cedar City, UT.

     - “Driving of the Golden Spike Mural” [GM] Located at 125 E. Main Street in downtown Tremonton, this awesome mural depicts the driving of the Golden Spike that marks the union of the two railroads that were built across the continent.

     - “Big Fill Trail” [GM] [AT] This hike is a 5mi out-and-back (OAB) easy hike that takes you out to a physical marvel that showcases a tremendous man-made miracle with the building up of this plateau that allowed the railroad to cross such a large gap.

     - “Golden Spike National Historic Park” [GM] This national park is located west of Brigham City and provides more historical information behind the union of the Transcontinental Railroads. There are real trains that can be explored and even a reenactment show that explains and provides a great demonstration of that historic event.

     - “Chinese Arch” [GMThis natural arch that occurs just to the East of Golden Spike NHP was named in honor of the thousands of Chinese workers who labored to build the transcontinental railroads. It is a short distance from the loop road and makes for an easy walk.

     - “Spiral Jetty” [GM] This is a man-made sculpture made by Robert Smithson in 1970. Our family loves to visit this area of the Great Salt Lake because you can actually walk pretty far out into the pink salty waters without going very deep past your ankles or knees in the water.

     - “ATK Rocket Garden” [GM] This is a display outside of the ATK buildings that is a hands-on experience seeing rockets of many different shapes and sizes with plaques that help to explain what they are used for historically and in today's scientific and military pursuits. There are also several stages that have been used in space travel.

     - “Rees Pioneer Park” [GM] This park is located in Brigham City and provides not only some fun playground structures for the kids to enjoy, but also features a pond where some fishing can be enjoyed as well.

     - “Mantua Poppy Field” [GM] This area just east of Brigham City features some of the greatest concentration of orange poppies in the entire state of Utah. While many of the poppies have been hit with the intense summer heat, there are still some blooms that can be enjoyed.
